Artemis Board of Directors

President - Liz Dearborn

Vice President - Nicole Kopp
I have been a member of Artemis since 2002. I first joined the Board of Directors in 2004 as the Social Director and this year as Vice President. My time with Artemis has not only given me such skills in team work, personal development and event planning, but has also offered me many long lasting friendships with many wonderful women. My professional background began in the arts. I have been dancing since the age of 3 and have owned and operated a dance studio for 9 years along with studying and teaching yoga.

I currently am the location manager for Eveline Charles Salons and Spas and have just started up an event planning company named Sweet Style Inc. I am the mother of one amazing 6 year old boy - Skyler. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, drinking wine, and I love to travel.

Co-Treasurer - Cecilia de la Rocha
I first joined Artemis as a means of meeting like-minded women in a city that was relatively new to me. After 2 years of general membership I joined the Executive as Treasurer. This is my 2nd year in that role and I am very appreciative to all those Executive members who have preceded me. I have learned much from them and have also had the good fortune of forming some lasting friendships. When not volunteering I work as a professional engineer focusing on marketing and business development. I have recently moved away from my consulting practice to start an e-business in personalized online meal planning. I am married and have 3 children; this inevitably leaves little time for my interests which include photography, tennis, and reading.

Co-Treasurer & Past President - May Yeung
I have been a member since 2000, first joining the Board of Directors in 2003 before becoming President for 2004-2006. I truly appreciate the skills and opportunities that membership in Artemis has afforded me: leadership development, managing people, personal development, event planning, and above all camaraderie and friendship. For me, Artemis embodies all that teamwork towards a common goal is meant to be. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Professionally, I work as a consulting economist, focusing on trade and policy issues. A hiker, voracious bookworm, runner and musician, my favourite past time is exploring far flung corners of the world.

Communications - Sandy Kennedy
Fairly new to the Calgary scene, I joined Artemis last year in an effort to broaden my circle of contacts and to become involved in the community. My experiences to date have been very positive … enough to make me want to join the Board of Directors! Yes, my personal need to become more social has been met through the organization, but more important, I made a significant realization. Raising money for charity is gratifying – we have a great group of gals and we feel good about what we’re doing. But here’s the lesson - accepting charity is really difficult, and I only really learned this in the last year. This key learning has shaped my perceptions, judgments, and attitude toward people and I’m thankful for the insight. Professionally, I work on the client service side for a marketing communications agency. My hobbies include long-distance running, reading, food & wine, and lots of travel. I am expecting my first child in January 2007 and can’t wait to be a mom!

Membership & Social - Sue Schiavon
I joined the Artemis Charitable Foundation™ in the fall of 2005. I  joined  this foundation because I have always felt the need to give back in some way to the community and to the wonderful charities in our city  that give so much every day . I chose to work with  Artemis because I like the fact that they choose a different  charity every year to support, giving many local charities a chance to receive donations, and also for  the women involved in this foundation, as they are all amazing, fun women from many diverse and interesting backgrounds. I have stayed with Artemis because these women and this foundation have inspired me and kept me passionate about helping others in need, and also for the wonderful feeling of accomplishment after one of our successful events.

My husband and I are expecting our first baby this June, and of course are really excited. I hope I can pass on some of the many wonderful moments and experiences from the Artemis foundation to our child.  We love to travel and have been to many far away and exotic places in the world and plan to do more once our child is old enough.
