Artist: Jacqulynn Mulyk Title: Utopia City 18" x 24" Artist Statement: Her paintings - collages of paint, photos and even fabric -- provide glimpses of the cities: vibrant splashes of colour and movement in New York, flowing expanses of blues and greens in Vancouver, and in Calgary, a sense of space, set against a framework of skyscrapers and rivers. Edmonton paintings show her love of the river valley with colourful greens for summer and sparkling yellows for the fall . "I love architecture," she says. "I think it plays an important role in our lives, and (the art) puts that into context with the other things around it, like the trees on the street, the river, the natural spaces, the air quality, the energy." This particular painting includes a drawing of the Memorial Library on 2st SW along with all the other elements which I think make for a better city. Apple trees, rain barrels, kiosks, solar heated bus stops, outdoor cafes, walking and biking spaces... there is so much we can do to improve our cities. www.burstandbloom.ca www.artpoint.ca BACK TO ONLINE GALLERY |
